The perfect position of Surf Lanzarote in the ocean ensures a powerful and consistent swell from every direction. Swell usually comes from the NW wind comes from the SW. This results in great waves through winter, spring, and autumn with double to triple overhead conditions. This is why Lanzarote is considered to be one of the best spots in Europe for surfing, kitesurfing, bodyboarding, and windsurfing.

Surfing is possible in all sorts of weather conditions, with multiple swell and surf locations being suitable in different weather. This multitude of locations and opportunities is a big reason Lanzarote is known as the Hawaii of Europe.

Famara is the heart of Lanzarote surf culture, but it’s far from the only reason to visit. Rent a car for a day and you can be at the Timanfaya volcanoes, the Jameos del Agua caves, or the vineyards of La Geria within an hour or so. Each part of the island has its own character, from the black volcanic soil of the wine region to the white sand and turquoise water further south, so it’s easy to build a few rest days into your surf trip without ever getting bored. Many of our guests combine a week of Lanzarote surf lessons with a couple of days exploring inland, hiring a car for the volcano trails or simply relaxing by the pool before heading home.
